Something I noticed is a lot of people who hated BATIM love BATDR and a lot of people fond of BATIM dislike BATDR. To me, this seems like a mechanics vs story issue. The actual game mechanics and aesthetic of BATDR disguise the lackluster characters and plot holes. However, BATIM still suffers those same issues.

This is a vague question, but what are your thoughts on BATIM vs BATDR story wise? Is either of them truly better? Or are they just flawed in different ways?

Sorry, this is long, but so are BATIM and BATDR :')

I think you hit the nail on the head in the sense that yes- BATDR has better gameplay and mechanics than BATIM, but BATIM by far has a much more compelling story that was able to capture and keep attention over the course of five chapter releases. And yes, BATIM is not without its flaws, for example it's mainly a walking simulator in terms of actual gameplay- the only thing saving it being the unique ability to suck the player in through the rich, stylistic environments.

In terms of story, here's my take for both of them-

BATIM is more solid overall, there are more connected plot points and there's a thread there to be followed from start to finish. It does suffer from some WTF plothole moments, the biggest one being Alice's 180 degree turn with suddenly using Boris as a killing machine rather than...what I can only assume was a plan to use his ink/body as some kind of reparative agent for the hole in her face (like thicc ink premium idk), or...some kind of spell...? It's honestly not very clear HOW she was going to use him, but bottom line she decided to entirely change her plan off-screen, which could have been remedied with something like a cutscene's worth of explanation, and more of a buildup to Brute Boris. The "reveal" in the haunted house didn't hold that much weight (at least to me,) just because we didn't even get a cookie crumb of a hint that Alice was going to mutilate him and use him as a drone instead of just axe him.

There are other nonsense details like Allison's ominous "I'm no Angel" line, which didn't make sense when Tom was the one to want to leave Henry. It was never explained WHY the Ink Demon walks around with a limp when he can shapeshift into a bigger and faster Beast version of himself (and apparently he was ALSO the hand in the ink river??? I guess???) And can we talk about how the cult Joey started was just never brought up again? Wally talks about how workers were encouraged (or mandated, idk) to put offerings in the break room to "appease the gods." What gods? Was Joey worshiping Bendy like a god? NONE OF THIS IS EXPLAINED EVER and honestly I think Micheal D. and Meatstick just Forgot that Joey was a cult leader in favor of Sammy's cult storyline.

But despite all of the plot holes, we still get a tale of a deteriorating studio, humans being used as literal skeletons for lifelike versions of cartoon characters, themes of life, death, cults, art, and more. Honestly, going deep into the plot of Bendy would take its own post to really do it justice.

I guess the main plot is this: Ex-co-founder of Joey Drew Studios, Henry, is trying to get the fuck home to his wife, learning along the way that through the power of a mysterious ink machine, his ex-business partner decided to coerce and persuade people to Literally Die so he could have the necessary materials to create living versions of his cartoons, thus making "his" characters (and more importantly, Bendy,) a reality. Once Henry does escape, he learns that Joey has sent him through this same hell before, still filled with hatred and spite, just in time for Joey to assumedly "reset" him and send him on a different version of the same journey, as we can guess from the storyboards on display in Joey's apartment. THAT on its own is an intriguing and layered tale, and that's not even including the other details, voices, and faces we run into in BATIM, AND the new info we learn in BATDR.

Now, BATDR...is something I've come to view as a mixed bag.

Story-wise, it weirdly wants to have its cake and eat it to. Henry's story is elaborated on, and part of Audrey's origins are also brought to light. This is helpful information concerning the plot of BATIM...but then we get assblasted with a ton of new characters and lore for a completely new Cycle under the reign of a completely new Random Old Man. I know he's Nathan's son, and he was mentioned in both Illusion and Fade to Black...but those were de-canonized, so it almost doesn't help context-wise...???? So...????

In a lot of ways, BATDR almost acts like it wants to be an AU branching from BATIM rather than a direct sequel, which it was marketed/confirmed as.

I think my biggest problem with BATDR is that some of the main characters are bafflingly like. Mishandled.

I'm gonna have the mildest take on earth and say I didn't like the new Ink Demon. Old design was better and more uncanny by far, the new design looks like Generic Satan or something straight out of Baldur's Gate. He was given a deep, guttural growling voice because....tumblr sexyman I guess. Even if they needed him to talk, it could've been something more breathy and raspy, true to the heavy breathing of the original Ink Demon. Also, his alternate form was made very childlike, and I'm just weirded out by the fact that you have this oddly "sexified" version of the Ink Demon on the flipside of Bendy the Child. I don't think any ill intent was meant by this, but it's more confusing than anything thematically. I'm also not sure why Bendy's abuse was brought up and then never touched on....? Like wasn't this guy locked up and called a monster his whole life? Are we going to...say something especially considering the moral of this story......?

Memory Joey is completely fine, but I just can't shake the feeling that the narrative is trying to paint IRL Joey as "UWU fixed now" when that's not the case. The most sympathy I can extend to IRL Joey is that he was a gay man who desired to have a family at a time when that was not only frowned upon but dangerous, not just socially speaking but in terms of his physical safety. But beyond that, this was a dude who locked people in a building to keep them working, coerced and possibly forced the deaths of many people to get what he wanted (the ink machine was a scientific advancement that could've had AMAZING implications for society but he Did Not Give a Shit about that), and was abusive towards Henry. If we trust the Bendy books, he also gaslit and killed his teenage staff. This motherfucker isn't a patron saint of anything, and even if Memory Joey can learn from IRL Joey's mistakes, IRL Joey was still a shitbag who just happened to raise a daughter.

Which leads me to Audrey. Some of Audrey's tale is explained- she was raised by Joey, forgot Joey was her father, and came to work at Archgate as an animator. Got to know Wilson, who works as a janitor at Archgate, and then he drags her into ink hell because....idk, she's his version of "A Perfect Boris" I guess. Fair enough. However, it's NEVER EXPLAINED how Audrey doesn't remember her father, or WHERE she went to live after his passing, or WHO she lived with. Remember, Joey was as old as a cave painting, so he clearly passed when she was very young. While you could argue she doesn't remember his name because she was little, SURELY she remembers his face or voice, or the fact that she HAD A FATHER??? Like, was there some huge trauma there? (Other than the fact that Joey was her dad?) It makes little sense to me that she would forget so easily. If I had to make a guess (and granted I'm no Mark Twain), I'd wager that Allison probably found Joey dead. Remember that Nathan hadn't talked to Joey in years, and Allison was the one who went out of her way in the first place to visit. At this point, Allison's gonna find a little girl running around by herself, and assumedly her and Thomas would've taken her in. If that's not the case, someone else found Joey dead, at which point Audrey would've possibly lived with Nathan and Tessa, considering how much Nathan cared about Joey. Either party has ties to Archgate. But all of that is just speculation, not confirmed, and even if any of that were true, Audrey makes no mention of it. And I'm sorry, Audrey's backstory makes me want to cry, because it's just NOT THERE and she has the personality of a depressed bucket.

Alice was alright...but she was kind of stupid? Which is like....the antithesis of everything cool about her? Instead of using traps and luring the main character from a distance, she knocks out Audrey (via unspecified drink), plays Diet Jigsaw with Audrey, and then gets pushed off a balcony. She was also a lot more...idk, suave and sultry in speech mannerisms in BATDR, which isn't bad, but her unhinged and clever nature seemed a bit watered down.

I don't really have notes on the rest of the main cast. Sammy was brought back to die immediately, which honestly was fine considering his death track record. We get some mentions of BATIM characters. Wilson and Betty were fine, and even some of the lore explaining how the timelines work made sense.

HOWEVER,

I've already said it a hundred times, but the old cast was shoved to the side for a bunch of new characters we had no time to connect with. A new butcher gang member was added when we still have Miss Twisted as a potential female-role filler (keep in mind the Projectionist is based on Camera Man and Brute Boris was based on The Brute.) The whole "Amok" thing was a REALLY roundabout way to get the Lost Ones to stop attacking Audrey.

Wilson's motivations are mostly consistent and I'd argue somewhat compelling, but I don't understand why he didn't do more to protect Audrey if he was going to need her for the endgame for Shipahoy Dudley? Like what's all this about letting her run around and get killed? Was he just aware that she'd revive?

The main message of BATDR was fine, but it didn't work super well for Audrey's character. She'd already forgotten Joey was her father, and was living in blissful ignorance of that fact until Memory Joey decided to infodump on her right away. Sure, the "just because you were born of darkness doesn't mean you have to be darkness" thing applies to her AFTER she learns Joey was her father, but...Audrey was never threatening to Become Evil, so it almost didn't need to be said and was kind of a flat message...? I would argue Memory Joey would benefit more from that message- as he's a literal copy of a Very Bad Dude. My guy was projecting this whole time.

I do think BATDR was worse story-wise, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend it didn't have certain disadvantages from the start. The Kindlybeast debacle happened, BADTR was trying to continue a story from an existing property, and there was a severe lack of Adrienne Kress. Okay, maybe the last one was a bit much, but still. That doesn't mean I hate BATDR overall, I can appreciate a lot of things about it, but strictly in the story department, it needs soooooo much work and makes me want to jump off a Minecraft cliff.

being married to wonwoo, you shouldve gotten used to his soft-spoken words by now. to the way he'd convey the sweetest of statements without even batting an eye. but you still found yourself affected by him, with your heart melting every time he unknowingly waxed poetic at you.

"nonu .. it was always a yes. you couldve asked me on day one and it wouldve been a yes."

"oh? you liked me that much?", now he was smirking, pulling you closer once again.

"shut up. you're hot, okay? i'm not stupid you're totally wife material."

there he was again. his words made you feel like you were floating, never being able to get used to the adoration he held for you. you couldnt help yourself when you wrapped yourself tighter around him, nuzzling your face into the warmth of the crook of his neck. he took the hint and held you even closer, making sure his arms trapped the entirety of you against him.

this had to be your favorite thing about being married to your husband. he'd loved and held you all throughout your relationship, but now that you were married, every time you were in his arms it felt like a promise. like he would keep you close to him no matter what happened.

see i wouldnt have minded eric if he was at least being funny. i thought it mustve been sam or maybe the crew because the character was just. so painfully unfunny that it had to be intentional. like the entire bit was just mentioning tacos or that this ancient snake was named steven (thats not a greek name! laugh!). very very millennial humor. i dont think eric made me laugh a single time over the course of the entire episode while everyone else had me on the floor. complain all you want about me not having watched a show that came out when i was 5 and ended when i was 8 (ive heard OF it and i know a few popular sketches, not enough to recognize the guy by sight or name tho), but the least he couldve done was be funny in the episode.

they really shouldve just done smth more than the lazy approach of "ohh!!!! celebrity cameo!!!!" because i dont come to dropout for the celebrities. there are so many cool and creative options they couldve done, but instead they copped out. i dont think i wouldve liked it no matter the celebrity tbh. it couldve been anyone and i still wouldve preferred smth more creative, but the fact that it was a celebrity that didnt mesh with the humor of dropout is a crime

achilles 'loved' briseis

no he didnt. i can provide proof and evidence for this. yes he quit the war once she was taken from him but that wasn't because he loved her. it was because agamemnon was taking away his honor. some people may argue that when the embassy came over he said that he did love her but this can also be refuted. the moment when agamemnon offers all of the gifts back (the tripods gold bars but most of all briseis) achilles doesn't except him.

he doesnt even go back to the war for her. he does it for patroclus. he couldve went back for her, this wouldve been when the embassy came though and he wouldve gotten her back if he went to war and more. he wouldve gotten a lot of gifts too. he goes back after patroclus has been taken from him. knowing that he couldnt get him back.

he didnt leave the war for briseis he did it for his honor and it only shows when the embassy (mentioned previously) offers her back along with gifts and glory and STILL he declines.

'but what about patroclus promising briseis that achilles would marry her?'

that means nothing. he never wouldve married her and as far as im concerned it doesnt seem like he did. patroclus said that they would get married in phthia but achilles was never to return to phthia whether or not patroclus made this claim with or without his knowledge is still up to debate but still. even if he did return to phthia it would be without briseis since agamemnon had her. he never loved her. he had thousands of chances to get her back yet he still declines.

NOT TO MENTION. when achilles talks about them fighting of briseis he says artemis shouldve cut her down by the ships... yeah he says he wishes briseis died. thats not love.

i want to watch spn but at the same time i dont. last 2 seasons. i dont want to say goodbye. but i need to kearn how their stories end. i must say dean looks amazing. they'll find dean, sam and cas theyre trying so hard.

poor nick, lucifer used him. i love bobby. when he came back i didnt think we would see him this much. its nice to see him he is like our bobby but he is not him. i wish he could come back. cas' speech was beautiful, he changed so much. i love him. jack is right and i dont like that. dean would agree with jack. but dean cant die theyll find another way. and theyll save dean. why didnt cas go with nick? dean isnt dean its Michael right? that was the plan. i hope he is dean but i dont think so.

dean is back. the beard, really dean. I thought Kaia's story would be left unfinished. im glad theyre telling it. Jack is still young and has been through so much already. jack saved the girl. and now he is sick. i love dad cas, when he is talking to jack he is awesome. dean said yes and saved his brother and son. yes michaelhurt people but dean did what he had to do.

dean wanted a friend like stuart. when he was mad at his dad he could just go and hang out with his friend. he now has cas but it wouldve been nice for him when he was young. i love fanboy dean. his love for movies is beautiful. i hope they can have a nice halloween next year. i would like to see the cosplay.

jack and cas finally went to hunt. i wish we could see that. i love bobby but he needs to be more chill. he is bobby but not our bobby. our bobby's relationship with the boys was different, it was beautiful. i missed him. i didnt think bobby would live this long. i thought they would kill him. im glad he is alive. i am not sure about bobby and mary tho.

i missed Charlie. They had planned everything but the "old man" destroyed Dean. He never expected this. he is offended. jackrealy played his role. i like both of them. they are amazing. i like how both of them thinks Michael is their fault and not the other ones. i love how jack is trying to convince dean to forgive himself. i liked how sam convinced Charlie to stay. i missed our Charlie and bobby. jack is truly a winchester. he is not okay.

hi cas! nick learned some stuff from luci, like torturing:(. dean let jack drove the baby:'). and what is wrong with dean? jack is their son dean'S cas' and sam's. and they love him so much. i mostl forget jack is just a baby. at least rowena helped, it was nice of her. nick is a psychopath. he lost his mind. if he doesnt want to feel those feelings he shouldve asked for help from the boys or he couldve killed himself but he chose lucifer. when lucifer comes back there will be chaos. hell cause so much pain but nick doesnt even care. i thnik luci will save jack probably not willingly but i think jack will live because of him. maybe hell get his grace back.

no no no no. this cant be happenning jack cant die. dean and cas werent with him. even if they were he cant die. theyll bring him back. im glad kelly got the chance to see her boy. the winchesters and cas, they raised jack well. he is amazing. empty is ruthless. im glad it didnt take cas now but it will take him when he is finally happy. i hope it cant but this story will end, cas' story will end. and i guess thats how it will end. this is bad but for now both cas and jack are safe. im happy for lily she saved jack and she got her reward in the end. the winchesters are back together again. i wish Chuck would come. he couldve beaten Michael easily. and the boys wouldnt have to fight with him. but Chuck is with his sister idek what theyre doing but it wouldnt take long to kill Michael. boys are great dads. they have their son back, they really love their son. i love seeing team free will 2.0. they are all amazing.

no garth wouldnt do that. i think he is working with the winchesters. i love garth. i think i love ketch too. he did some(a lot maybe) bad things but he is trying to do the right thing. i dont like the fact that dean lied to kaia. yes they need the spear, hopefully theyll keep their end of the deal and return her to her home. why did Michael let sam live? what did he do to him? no! Michael took dean, again. dean isnt gone hell beat Michael. dean will win.

nick became lucifer. i couldnt tell the differance. he was a monster. jack didnt do wrong, if he didnt kill nick he would try to do the same thing again. yes something is wrong with jack but he will get better. Mary pushed Jack too hard, maybe if she left him alone for a few minutes he would be able to pull himself together.

No, Jack couldn't have killed Mary. dean and sam theyll be devastated. dean dont be mad at cas. he was just trying to do what he thought was right. The flashback scenes are killing me. I get sadder with each scene. There is 1 season left, I have been watching their stories for 3 months. I don't know how to say goodbye to them. rowena changed so much, i like the winchester affect. she cares about jack and the others. i didnt think mary would die. but she did.

hi bobby! i hate dumah now, i didnt like her before and now she is worse. Jack is very open to manipulation. cas did a good thing. dumah doesnt deserve that kinda power. They should have known that box couldn't hold Jack. Dean can be so cruel sometimes, he lied to Jack so easily. and sam he wasnt okay with it he struggelled while lying to jack. i hope they can figure this out. and thing could be way it was. lucifer always makes everything worse.

Chuck!! if jack was sam den would do anyhing to save sam. jack could be saved. jack will return only he can beat Chuck. and he will beat Chuck, he has to. Chuck is a monster. jack is just trying to be good. im glad dean didnt kill jack. he saw jack was struggling and he was trying to do te right thing so he didnt kill him. 1 last season

kfp4 is literally fine. idk why everyone is so mixed about it

that being said I do have some gripes with it like: the anachronistic names like steve and larry did piss me off bc it broke the immersion SO HARD for me. I dont remember it being such a problem before

Kai and Shen were distracting. Them being here with no narrative importance was obviously going to make people go "hey why dont they do more/have literally no lines?" rather than "oh look it's Kai and Shen! All the previous villains are here!", like I genuinely wouldve been fine if we just saw the chameleon transform into them or them not being here at all. It shouldve just been about kung fu masters which neither Kai nor Shen are. Genuinely only Tai Lung shouldve shown up.

Speaking of him, LOVED Tai Lung's inclusion, his scenes were great and I'm glad we got him back even for a bit. BUT. he was underutilized as hell. Like obv I wasnt expecting him to have a major role or to end up the new dragon warrior (like many people thought/hoped would happen for some reason? Guys it wouldnt have been satisfying) or even to have a scene with Shifu (like if THAT does happen, it needs a bigger focus and obv the movie was not going to be about that)... but I think he shouldve had longer scenes with Po. And unlike the other two main villains, he does have potential narrative importance: the movie is about the dragon warrior title itself again like the first movie (second was about Po himself, third was about chi as a whole/the panda village), and Tai Lung does embody the mastery of physical strength, which is what the chameleon is after. So yeah, while I dont want him to steal the spotlight more than he does anyway, I still think he couldve been used for more than just for a few snarky comments, and I'm a bit sad if this really is the last we'll see of him but also yknow, glad we got Just A Bit more. His very first and last scenes were sweet tho, him finally calling Po dragon warrior was nice (as long as I dont think too much about it tho lmao)

The 5 not being present is such a non-issue for me. I love them sooo much DO NOT get me wrong but like genuinely, what would they have added to the story? How would you have worked them into it without breaking everything? I do not get why them not being here was such a deal-breaker for so many people bc you wanna argue they were well-utilized in kfp3? I'd rather the story focus on Po and another new character than trying to juggle the 5 into it, and besides, we got an explanation for why theyre missing (even if a little on the nose) so im not asking for more.

Anyway I'm gonna wait a few years before people calm down and realize kfp4 is literally fine, even good dare I say, because I remember how it was when kfp3 came out in 2016.

And speaking of kfp3, it has it easy bc "The Kung Fu Panda Trilogy" sounds nice and people just put it alongside the masterpieces that were kfp1 and kfp2 even tho, in my honest opinion, kfp4 is better, is funnier (the humor is on par with kfp2's even), has a similar pacing anyway, and the chameleon is a better villain than Kai byyyeee

i have a list of things i liked and didn't like here (lmk if you want me to send it in dms instead :3). long story short: i hate the way it portrayed crime at the beginning (specifically with the arrest) and i hate how normalized it treats arrests, especially with the arrest being of a child with dark skin. i hate the way they write the temple of silence as an extension of their religious racism by villainizing them and that feeding into their very very binary view on racial prejudice. and i also just think they wasted a lot of opportunity.

honestly part of me is hung up on the fact that it just wasn't as cool as i wanted it to be which yk whatever. and part of me is also upset at how much cooler it couldve been even if they decided to make the truth as mundane as it was. even if they didnt decide to make the temple of silence as important as i wanted, i feel like they underutilized particular characters in favor of marketable relationships they know will sell (ie: 4ggravate). for example :i feel like it didn't focus on sethos as much as it should have either, given that they're literally narrative foils. ideally, the quest should've focused primarily on cyno's relationship with cyrus and sethos with a parallel between cyno & cyrus || sethos & bamoun. they introduced sethos wayyyy too late imo. it doesnt help that i dont really like the pacing of that half of the quest. it felt kinda awkward which sucks since its the literal meat of the story.

also more of a general complaint that becomes relevant here: but i hate the way they separate characters into cliques and never allow them to venture outside of their clique. (re the 4ggravate thing. them and desert gang can and should coexist i hate mhy). this is pertinent because i really really feel like the story wouldve been much better off if cyno had brought along candace who was designed as a foil to him. (both of them having motifs of the eye of ra/eye of horus, candace being representative of night/moon and cyno being representative of the day/sun via the eye of ra, both being guardians of sumeru, both wielding the same signature weapon, etc.). candace is also yk. the guardian of aaru village, the last surviving village apart of deshret's kingdom which, given the lore of the temple of silence feels like it shouldve been brought up at least once. especially since candace's family lineage is portrayed as being blessed by deshret in particular.

AND!!!!!!! FUCK THIS IS WHERE I START GETTING AYRUGHRUYIRGHRU!!!!!!!!! okay my interest in cyno's story does heavily skew towards his relationship with family and his culture as a person from the desert that was raised in the rainforest but clearly dons desert cultural clothing. the fact that the 3.1 desert gang was composed of two characters from both the desert and the rainforest, and that being representative of the unification of the desert and the rainforest since it shows them working together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND! i think its important to note that a big point of contention in 3.1 was the fact that cyno is an unfamiliar face in the desert. the people of desert are scared of him and don't trust him!!!!! that has to make him feel like shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially since he started telling jokes and playing genius invokation to make people less afraid of him!!!!!!!! the cultural disconnect between him and the desert people makes me so fucking ill because its not like he's treated the best in the rainforest either as a child from the desert and as a kid who needed protection from the akademiya's wants to weaponize him (at least im assuming thats what the windblume conversation meant bc if he did mean the temple of silence it would kinda fuck w the continuity a bit by making the lore dump redundant.)

cyno reconnecting with his culture with the introduction of sethos and the temple of silence wouldve been sooooo interesting to watch! especially if candace, his foil, was there!!!! candace being a child of the desert raised in the desert and never has any plans of leaving because her duties and wants are so deeply intertwined with the culture in aaru village!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it also sucks because cyno's affiliation in game is literally with the temple of silence, not teh akademiya. seeing him fight as a representative of the akademiya makes me feel like they did nooot think his story through before they released him. AND WHY DOES HE NOT SHOW MORE INTEREST IN RELEARNING ABOUT THE TEMPLE OF SILENCE I DONT FUCKING GET IT. I dont even really know why but I liked Darkside a lot and thought he was gonna be a sympathetic character but then nothing really came of that. When you were a child you looked forward to summer and winter, the only times of year family traveled. There wasn’t anything you liked as much as you loved flying. Your father always made jokes about you becoming a pilot because how much you loved flying and being on planes. It was your calling. Your brother passed away and you couldn’t be in the air anymore. You didn’t want to fly and you wouldn’t. It was a painful reminded every time you even thought about flying. Your brother and Maverick. It played over in your head and just couldn’t fly. You didn’t want to go back to the place you lost your brother and a piece of yourself along with it.

As the plane landed you felt yourself shaking with anxiety. It wasn’t because of the flight or being on a plane but what awaited you once you got off. Several weeks ago you got a invitation for a wedding from one of the guys you used to fly with it was almost impossible to say no. You know deep down you couldn’t say no even if you wanted to. Once you eventually got off the plane you walked around the airport to get something to eat before leaving.

"Mav its so good to see you" you dropped your luggage and wrapped your arms around him. You felt the vibrations off his chest of him chuckling. The last time you seen Maverick was before you left Top Gun when your brother died. It was unfortunate because he was your family but you truly did miss him. Usually this is would be the part where Maverick would lecture you and ask you what is the worst that could happen. The answer was so many things. You werent scared of many things but saying this made you nervous was a understatement. Maybe things would be best left alone especially even after all of these years. That wasn’t the years you were here to revisit old ghosts but to celebrate new beginnings. At some point you would have to deal with unfinished things but just not today not yet. After picking up a rental car you went to drive onto base. It had to happen eventually but you were curious if anything changed at all.

Even though it was years since the last time you passed through the gates of the base there was still so many familiar faces. You greeted them all and caught them up to what you been up to and you did the same. It brought a smile to your face that so many people were doing good and were still at Top Gun. They told you about what things changed with Top Gun. Maverick and Kazansky became instructors at the base which brought a smile to your face. They were always good pilots and they were passionate about what they did. Things changed in a good way.

Your hands touched the walls of the building and couldn’t help but be reminded of the memories of your time as a pilot within these walls. It brought back good memories and couldn’t help smiling as the further you walked the more you began to reminisce. Watching the new class of Top Gun recruits walk through the building you couldn’t help but laugh to yourself. At one point that was you and your brother. As much as there were good memories here you couldn’t shrug off the bad ones. When you were starting off you always told your brother that one day you would become an instructor. That was the one thing you held so close to your heart and deep down always will. It was like something drew you into the locker room. It had been years but he still looked the same way you left him.

"Kazansky" He looked up at you and took a couple glances almost like he didn’t believe it was really you. The two of you stood in the room. The same room years ago he was comforting you after your brother died. What was scary was that you didn’t know what was going to happen next. You felt like your heart was in your hands and at any moment it was going it was going to crush. He didn’t say anything as he moved past you walking into the hallway. "Don’t make me chase you down Ice" you chased after him as he left into the hallway. He stopped in the middle of the hallway and turned to face you. " Last time I checked you are the one who ran off and left without a word. You were the one who just disappeared. I told you I love you and wanted to marry you and you left. So forgive me if you decide to just randomly show back up and expect me to just act like nothing happened" that was the moment you were waiting for. The moment your heart felt like someone crushed it into pieces.

"What was I supposed to do Ice I lost my brother my family was I just supposed to stay and pretend like nothing happened and deal with all the pathetic stares and gossip being the pilot whose her brother died." he ran his fingers through his hair " I lost my friend but was even worse was when you left and the bad thing is you never called to say you were leaving. Not a single word and now you just show up expecting everything to be fine." the more steps he took away the more you took forward. "I wanted to call. You don’t think I didn’t. I wanted to reach out and call more than anything. I thought about you all the time. Hoping you were happy. I needed to believe you were happy and you had everything you ever wanted"

"You don’t get it do you I wanted you. I fought for you. Everytime you left when it got hard. That’s what happens. I loved you and wanted to marry you. I wouldve gave up everything for you but you would never do the same." He knew it hurt you but it hurt him more than it hurt you. His eyes locked into yours and you were so focused on him you almost missed feeling the tears fall down your face and like that he was gone.

recently binged agents of shield for the first time, this is how i would describe the seasons:

season 1: exposition, but then the TWIST

season 2: everyone is badass now!

season 3: daisy! daisy! daisy! oh SHIT

season 4: nothing better than the smell of pain in the morning

season 5: dont. push. the writers. just dont. give them time.

season 6: bonus round!

season 7: an end, once and for all

my personal favourite is season 3 followed by season 4, best story arcs in my opinion, and we get daisy properly for the first time. after that season 6, because we just get more of the characters as they have developed over the past seasons, and just get to experience the badasses they are now. then season 7, because of sousa, season 2 because it turns skye into an absolute badass for the first time, season 1 because of nostalgia, and season 5 at the tail end because i was really bothered by how rushed the writing seemed. the ideas were awesome, the individual pieces if you want to put like that were great, but it didnt really fit together. it felt very weird sometimes. they didnt always do the legwork to move the plot to where they wanted it to be, like when daisy relinquished command because apparently she wasnt doing so hot as stand in director, except for the fact that she was slapping and had peoples support, even if they didnt agree with every decision she made. that just came out of the blue.

also, anyone else felt weird about how the timetravel plot was resolved in season 7? kinda feels like they couldve just not gone to the past and avoided the entire season basically. i know the timeloop was fixed, but it felt a little redundant at the end. they had to leave because the chronicoms were firing at them, but they were only firing at them because they had brought them over from the parallel universe later. also wouldve liked a little more setup for the "what we were fighting for" line at the end, because obviously they were all family, but in order for that line in the end to be a defining moment for the entire season, there shouldve been a little more emphasis on the actual family theme in the season. felt a bit shoehorned to me.

all that aside: this series was awesome. never seen anything like it. the amount of love you develop for the characters is staggering. definitley nothing that even compares in the rest of the mcu.
